HDTV: Superior television |

Superior detail and resolution The image seen on the best HDTV set has almost five times more detail than current analog televisions. That's why it's called High definition Television. Not only is the picture more realistic - like looking through a sparkling clean picture window - HDTVs have wide, rectangular screens like movie theaters.
The leap forward in resolution is comparable to what we've seen in computer monitors. Remember your old 640 x 480 screen? Compare that to the currently most used resolution of 1024x768 or maybe even 1280 x 1024. The higher resolutions offer much more detail and picture sharpness. Current analog TVs display an image of 414.720 pixels. Digital television starts at that resolution and hits a maximum of over two million for HDTV, the best of the digital formats. Digital quality Being digital, HDTV also brings us what CD players did for music. CDs eliminated scratches and hisses from records, while digital television eliminates ghosts, static, snow and poor-quality video. When you see an HDTV program, it's exactly the same as the one that left the TV station: colors are crisp, text is easier to read and the higher quality audio embedded into the signal supercharges the viewing experience. Surround sound HDTV not only delivers the best picture quality, it also includes 5.1 Dolby Digital surround sound, like in movie theaters. HDTV is revolutionizing television.
